Central Government Public sector undertaking
Several government companies fall under the central government’s public sector undertakings which include the petrol pump stations owned or managed by the government like HP, BHEL, DRDO, Indian Oil, etc. The salary in such companies ranges between ₹30,000 to ₹32,000. Basically, the working hours are the same as in any other company and all the perks are also the same. PSU consists of the companies owned by the central government, state government, or both. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING
Different organisations have different eligibility requirements depending on their standards but some of the common requirements are-
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Diploma holders
- Graduation degree or higher degrees.
- Age should be preferably between 21 to 30 years.
The higher the qualification of the candidate, the greater opportunities he/she may get.
PROCESS OF APPLICATION
Applications for jobs in the public sector undertakings can be done basically in 4 ways-
- National Eligibility Test (NET) – The scores of this examination can be used by the applicants to apply for PSU jobs in various companies but not all. (NOTE- all the organizations under PSU do not let applications based on NET scores in consideration as mentioned above – different companies have separate eligibility requirements)
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) – This examination is the most accepted and known for applying in PSU jobs. Candidates who clear the GATE, are then called to appear for GD and PI rounds. (Group discussions and Personal Interviews)
- Campus Interviews- Some companies also directly hire candidates from college/ university campuses by conduction interviews.
- Direct selection Exam- this examination is conducted by some companies which fall under the PSU’s and the candidates who appear for this exam get direct recruitment if they score well and clear the exam.
RRB JE
Junior engineer under the railway recruitment board also known as the inspector of works job is to supervise the department of civil engineering of the railways. The salary of a junior engineer ranges from INR 34000 to 38000 with some additional allowances. There are ample growth opportunities in this job profile as after every 3 to 4 years promotions take place.
Eligibility for application
a diploma or a degree in civil engineering, B.Sc in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, tools and die, automobile etc. is required for applying as JE. The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 33 years.
Application process
the process of applications for an RRB Junior engineer is the same as that of an assistant loco pilot. The process consists of 4 stages including CBT, CBT 2, document verification and the last being medical examination.
SSC JE
Junior engineer under the staff selection commission, this post gives a starting salary of around INR 35000 with some additional allowances as well. There are various vacancies available for which the examinations are yet to be conducted in the month of March next year. The companies with the vacancies available are-

The age limit set by the SSC for applying is 30 years. The basic requirements for the application are – diploma or degree in civil engineering from any recognised institute and also some work experience is required with the 3-year diploma. Other qualifications vary from company to company.

the selection process consists of computer-based examinations after clearing which the candidate needs to appear for a descriptive examination.
Assistant loco pilot by RRB
The railway recruitment board (RRB) conducts a national ALP examination for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot. This job profile is really popular and high in demand, every year there are a lot of applications for this job at the time of vacancies and the competition is high. An Assistant Loco Pilot needs to work on the directions given by the Loco pilot and he also needs to take care of some technical issues. An ALP gets a basic salary of around 35000 INR which includes some good allowances also.
Eligibility for application
age of the candidate should be minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 28 years. The required educational qualifications of the candidate include either of the following-
- SSLC plus ITI
- Completed Act Apprentices or Diploma
- Degree in engineering or
- Matriculation
Process of Application
the exam for an ALP is conducted in 4 levels by the RRB. The first is the CBT – Computer-based test, then the 2nd CBT, 3rd level is the CBAT – Computer based aptitude test and then the 4th level is the document verification stage. The candidate is required to clear all the 4 stages in order to get a job in railways.
