Total Test Time: -2 hours 45 minutes

The first three modules – Listening, Reading and Writing – must be completed in one day. The Speaking Module may be taken, at the discretion of the test centre, in the period of seven days before or after the other Modules.

• Listening:- Under this, there are four separate sections, which can be heard only once. It consists of usually 40 questions and you are given time to read the questions and then jot down your answers on the answer sheets. The first two sections generally comprise a conversation between two people or an interview or a monologue.

The third and fourth sections generally comprises a conversation of up to four speakers and then a lecture. The conversations are generally carried out in a variety of English accents. Your test type may be multiple-choice questions, labelling a diagram, sentence completion, answering short questions, and completing charts/notes.

• Academic Reading:- You are given three reading passages of around 2,000 to 3,000 words. Again you are given around 40 questions and are given only a total of 60 minutes to both read the passages and write the answers. The passages could be from magazines, journals, textbooks and newspapers. One of the articles is usually a detailed logical argument.

• Academic Writing:- In this section, the student’s ability to describe and explain data are tested. The student is provided with a table or diagram and he has to explain it. The word limit for this report is 150 words. In the second part the student has to write an essay in response to an opinion or a problem. The length of this essay can be 250 words

Speaking:-This is the last part of the test and the students are called for a one-on-one interview which is recorded. The examiner determines the ability of the student to communicate in English through a series of questions, the students are also asked to speak on a familiar topic and it ends with general interaction between the student and the examiner.

• Results:- The test results are available within two weeks. Candidates receive scores on a Band Scale from 1 to 9. Candidates are not allowed to repeat the test (Academic or General Training) within 90 days at any centre. The following Conversion table can be used for the Listening & Reading tests to convert raw scores to band scores. SPOKEN ENGLISH

English as a universal language has become the key tool of globalization. The importance of English depends on the number of people who speak it and for what purpose the language is spoken. But what matters most, is to understand how to use the English language rather than just knowing it. The ability to handle language effectively and clearly is valuable in any occupation.

The ability to learn English will determine who will increase their living standards, and who will remain in poverty. The study of English constitutes much more than the technicalities of grammar, punctuation and spelling.
